September 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

Highlights:
Frontline dropped a hot album
Mistah F.A.B. beat Royce Da 5'9 in a battle
Federation released a video for "Happy I Met You"
Ya Boy released a video for "Holla At Ya Boy"
Keyshia Cole is doing her thing

Lowlights:
Mainstream media seems to have given up on the Bay, Federation's album got practically no promotion.
The Pack's first single is nowhere near as catchy as Vans

Things To Look Forward To In October:
Federation is releasing "It's Whateva"
The Pack is scheduled to drop their album, "Based Boys" at the end of the month.

August 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

Highlights:
The Jacka/Ampichino album
Too Short's compilation had a few slaps on it
Bay Area rappers continue getting exposure through that Sweet 16 show on MTV

Lowlights:
Looks like Clyde Carson didn't have permission to use Sean Kingston on the hook of "Doin That" and the new guy who replaced him isn't as good.

Things To Look Forward To In September:
Kafani's album...if it doesn't get pushed back.
A bunch of rap's major artists are dropping...from 50 Cent and Kanye to Twista and Rick Ross

July 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

Highlights:

Really, the best thing in Bay Area rap this month was that Jacka and Ampichino album. Too bad it's probably gonna be slept on. Hopefully by now people have figured out that Jacka drops nothing but quality.

Lowlights:

We're more than halfway through the year and no Bay Area artist has dropped on a major label...and none of the Bay Area artists who are on major labels have much of a buzz going.

Things to Look forward to in August:

Looks like Federation doesn't have a release date anymore....so the only thing to look forward to this month when it comes to Bay Area Hip Hop is for the month to end.

June 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

Highlights:

The Westcoast Vaccine and Messy Slick albums turned out to be solid.

We got new singles from Clyde Carson, San Quinn, and Frontline (Three of the Bay's most popular)

Kafani is on Koch and it seems like Keak is too...but his might just be a distrubution deal.

Lowlights:

No one bought that Turf Talk album.

Things To Look Forward To In July:

I know I said this next month but he got pushed back...Numskull (of the Luniz) is dropping an album.

That's about it...looks like I'm going to be listening to a lot of old music this month.

May 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

I'm going down to Socal for a few days tomorrow so don't expect any updates until friday. When I come back I'll have a review of Turf Talk's new album and any other news I might miss this week.

But back to the topic...

Highlights:
Mistah F.A.B. dropped a solid album with Da Baydestrian
Federation releases an official single with "College Girl." A lot of people don't like it so I don't know if this is really a highlight
The Warriors upset Dallas for one of the biggest upsets in NBA playoff history

Lowlights:
Mistah F.A.B.'s sales (currently somewhere in the 6-8k range)
The Warriors lose to Utah

Things To Look Forward To In June:
Turf Talk- West Coast Vaccine
Bavgate- King of Oakland (I haven't heard any info on this one, but his last album wasn't too bad)
The Jacka/Ampichino album
Numskull album

April 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

Finally we have a month with a good amount of activity, althought no real major albums dropped.

Highlights:
We got pretty decent albums from Husalah and Black C (RBL Posse).
San Quinn released the single "Do Ya Thizzle" (prod. by Traxamillion)
Ya Boy released the single "Holla At Ya Boy" (prod. by Cool & Dre)
Frontline released a slapper with "I.M.G."
The highly anticipated video for Traxamillion's "From The Hood" was released

Lowlights:
Haji Springer's gimmick

Things To Look Forward To In May:
Mistah F.A.B.'s "Da Baydestrian", May 15th.
Several Mob Figaz and Thizz projects are scheduled to be released May 22nd (we'll see if that really happens) and that Messy Marv/Mitchy Slick album "Messy Slick" is due out that day as well.

March 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

I thought January and February were slow, but they were not as bad as March.

Highlights:
-Mistah F.A.B. released a single from Da Baydestrian with "Get It Together"
-Kafani and Keak drop a video for "Fassst"
-Numskull is back with new music/videos

Lowlights:
- Johnny Cash was shot to death
- No exciting new albums were released

Things To Look Forward To In April:
- Traxamillion's "From The Hood" music video
- Frontline has a new song that got some spins on the radio, I only caught the end of it so I can't give an opinion on it yet.
- Hopefully some surprises because I just noticed the Messy Marv/Mitchy Slick album got pushed back to May (according to cduniverse.com), making Rappin 4-Tay's album the most anticipated one out of the Bay for the month? Either that or the new Mob Figaz project, "Without My 5."
