New Too Short Interview on

Here's the intro to the interview and you could read the rest here...

For over two decades, Too $hort has arguably been one of hip-hop’s most prolific artists. Since 1983, the Oakland-based rapper has influenced an entire generation, releasing 16 albums, half of which earned platinum or gold status. Long before every rapper under the sun started proclaiming themselves P.I.M.P.’s, $hort Dawg was captivating listeners with his wanton lyrics, vivid storytelling and engrossing pimp persona. Largely regarded as an iconic figure in the Bay, the West Coast Mac has achieved pockets of mainstream success with such hits as 1988’s “Life Is…Too $hort,” 1990’s “The Ghetto” and 1996’s “Gettin’ It.” However, as the new millennium began, Shorty the Pimp began to see interest in his brand of rap wane as his last few projects fail to crack the gold mark. The OG’s musical prospects seem more promising, though, when he prepared to release last year’s Blow the Whistle. The 13th album on his longtime label home Jive Records, the LP rode the hyphy wave and included production from Lil Jon, Jazze Pha and Unlike fellow Bay Area veteran E-40, who crossed over earlier that year with “Tell Me When To Go,” Too $hort’s attempt to win over a new generation of listeners went largely unnoticed. Now, with only one album left on his contract with Jive, $hort is looking to return to his underground roots and focus on his new record label, Up All Nite. In order to kick off his imprint properly, Too $hort released a compilation album, I Love the Bay, in July. catches up with the hip-hop legend to discuss his new project, burgeoning label and decision to leave Jive Records.

Random Songs- Andre Nickatina

I haven't had much shit to post I'm gonna start uploading random old songs every once in a while.

Today's edition...the king of cocaine raps. Formerly known as Dre Dog...Nickatina spits some of the most random lines ever. He's one of the most popular underground rappers from the Bay and has fans all over the country. I wonder when he's gonna drop another solo...

The Jacka & Ampichino, "Devilz Rejectz"- 36 zips

If you're a fan of The Jacka and liked "The Jack Artist" you need to check this album out. This might be the best quality release I've ever heard off of Sumo Records. This wasn't one of those albums that was thrown together using old tracks, you could tell they put time and effort into it. The production is hot on almost ever song....and there are 21 tracks on this album. Ampichino kept up with Jacka most of the time as well. But enough talking, I'll let the music speak for itself.

July 2007- Bay Area Hip Hop Month In Review

Really, the best thing in Bay Area rap this month was that Jacka and Ampichino album. Too bad it's probably gonna be slept on. Hopefully by now people have figured out that Jacka drops nothing but quality.

We're more than halfway through the year and no Bay Area artist has dropped on a major label...and none of the Bay Area artists who are on major labels have much of a buzz going.

Things to Look forward to in August:

Looks like Federation doesn't have a release date the only thing to look forward to this month when it comes to Bay Area Hip Hop is for the month to end.

New Release For 7/31/07

There were a bunch of new releases from around the country this week...

The Jacka & Ampichino album finally dropped...I'll post a little review later this week.

Yukmouth dropped a soundtrack to his United Ghetto's Eye Candy DVD feature some of the Bay's heavy hitters. Both these Bay Area releases are on Sumo records.
